Intended Learning Outcomes

1. Explain data problems arising in different areas of science, technology, and the society. (Knowledge)

2. Model the problem with learned mathematics theories and models. (Execution)

3. Apply different mathematical tools to model data problems in application areas. (Execution)

4. Design and implement efficient algorithms to model the data and solve the problem.  (Execution)

5. Evaluate information and make independent judgements through constructing and inferencing with appropriate data models. (Judgement)

6. Communicate effectively about data science to both laymen and experts. (Communication)

7. Demonstrate self-direction in tackling and solving problems and act autonomously in planning and implementing tasks. (Autonomy)

With the rapid development of big data industries, talents in data science are in urgent need in the worldly market, and students in this program will have a wider range of employment opportunities. In the future, graduates of this program can pursue their academic interest, engage in scientific research, or become the important force in digital transformation and digital innovation in different industries.

Program Structure

120 credits are required for BSc in Data Science and Big Data Technology:

♦ 30 credits for University Common Core Courses

♦ 85 credit for Major Requirements, including:

o 31 credits for Fundamental Courses

o 30 credits for Major Required Courses

o 24 credits for Major Electives Courses

♦ Free Electives Courses can be used to fill in any shortfall in total credits

In Year 1 and 2 students will enroll in Fundamental Courses according to their interests and background as well as courses in other areas to fulfill the University Common Core requirement. In Year 3, students can declare their major in Data Science and Big Data Technology and have Domain courses starting in Year 3.
